Herbs
Why herbs? Herbs are probably some of the most easiest plants to grow. Versatile, delicious, and they smell good. You don’t really have to use them for cooking if you don’t want to, some herbs like chives ward off aphids and are great for companion planting. If you’re a beginner, I suggest you start with an herb or two to get the hang of gardening. You can plant them in pots, especially on a kitchen window sill because if you’re a cook it would be so great to have fresh herbs instead of the dried kind (which you can also make yourself before your leaves go dormant in winter time). Some are annual but most of them are perennial. You can grow the herbs individually or you can plant them all together in a larger pot. Either way is beautiful but I must warn you, herbs that have “runners” (roots that grow out underground) will begin to sprout and take over your garden if you plant them with other plants so it’s best to individually plant them. Aside from that, when the herbs flower they are also beautiful and attract bees and butterflies which is great for pollination if you are growing any other flowering plants! Herbs can be used for cooking, medical reasons (like basil can aid the stomach), and/ or skin care/pampering (soaps and perfumes)!
